Curve Electric is a public e-bike sharing platform that provides an affordable, convenient, and eco-friendly alternative to traditional transportation. The brand operates through docking stations strategically located in urban areas, allowing users to rent e-bikes for short trips. Curve Electric’s e-bikes are designed for rugged terrains, making them ideal for cities with challenging topography, such as Srinagar, where the brand is currently operational.
The platform aims to address two critical issues:
Curve Electric was born out of the founders’ deep concern for the deteriorating air quality in their hometown, Srinagar. Yameen and Zubair, both MBA graduates, noticed the increasing pollution levels and traffic congestion caused by the influx of tourists and vehicles. Inspired to make a difference, they launched Curve Electric in 2022 with the goal of creating a sustainable transportation solution.
The brand started with 11 docking stations in Srinagar and has since completed over 55,000 rides with zero incidents of theft or vandalism. Curve Electric’s success lies in its unique model, which combines assisted commerce (human-operated docking stations) with advanced technology to ensure a seamless user experience.
During their pitch on Shark Tank India, Yameen and Zubair highlighted the environmental and social impact of their e-bike sharing platform. They shared their vision of expanding to other cities and university campuses, emphasizing the scalability of their model.
The Sharks appreciated Curve Electric’s mission and the founders’ passion for creating a sustainable solution. However, they raised concerns about the scalability of the model, the thin profit margins, and the challenges of expanding to new cities. Despite these concerns, the Sharks commended the founders for their innovative approach and commitment to environmental sustainability. Ultimately, no deals were made, but the founders received valuable advice and encouragement.
Curve Electric is more than just an e-bike sharing platform; it’s a movement toward sustainable urban mobility. By addressing critical environmental and transportation challenges, Yameen and Zubair have created a brand that not only benefits users but also contributes to a cleaner, greener future. While the journey ahead may be challenging, Curve Electric’s innovative approach and commitment to sustainability make it a brand to watch in the micro-mobility space.
